If you’ve got tickets for an outdoor concert, it’s movie night in your local park, or a breezy day at the seaside — you’ll want to dish it out Hipcooks Style. With this cooking class you’ll learn about packable food that’s delicious and effortless. Anyone out there with an engagement ring burning a hole in your pocket? Here’s your checklist: Take our class, pack a picnic to wow, and pop the question! We bet it’s a “yes” that gets sealed with a kiss.
This cooking class is all about menus and ways to strategize, cook/prep beforehand and pack it up! But do not fear, no one will leave hungry, we’ve got snacks and beverages for class. Here’s the in-house menu:
A Moveable Feast (summer Picnics)
Shrimp escabeche in a jam jar
Moorish carrot salad
Pickled cherry peppers stuffed with goat cheese & mint
Fresh tapenade
Pan Bagnat
Cucumber salad with dill & lemon
Yogurt olive oil cake with fresh jam, berries, and cream
To taste: Strawberry basil smash & Vinho Verde
This class also gives us the opportunity to teach the much-requested summertime “pickles and jams.” A Moveable Feast offers an original, unexpected pickle recipe and a fresh jam for our “easiest cake in the world” recipe. See you soon!
Our classes rotate for each season. Please go to our site for the current classes near you!
How much have we been loving creating a new class for you, each month at Hipcooks? It’s giving us the excuse to try new recipes, shoot delicious food, and really think about seasonal themes for menus and classes. We hope you’re enjoying it as much as we are!

This looks amazing, and I’m going to test out the recipes at our local concert in the park next weekend! Thank you for this amazing blog!
Thank you, Lauren…how nice of you to say. And for more inspiration, I’ll send you $5 off a Hipcooks Class. : ) All the best, Monika
I take the Shrimp in a mason jar to the Bowl for Jazz Fest every year – we are always the hit of our section! : )
Yes, you are! Thanks for the comment, Kyrsten!
This was a great class! I could eat my body weight in that delicious Moorish carrot salad. These recipes will become regulars in my line-up. I appreciate the thoughtful creative food combinations, and Susana’s encouraging input in the Hipcook’s classes!
Heh heh – I know what you mean about the carrot salad. I brought some to a BBQ once and people ate more of that than the pork!
Thank you for your sweet words – we’d love to see you again at Hipcooks. I’ll email you a discount coupon! Cheers, Monika
All of it looks beautiful and delicious. The shrimp escabeche is so intriguing.
Thanks, Daniel! I’ll send you a little coupon, come join us at Hipcooks!
I just took this class yesterday and it was fantastic!! Kyrsten (the instructor) was fun and fabulous, as always. The cake and homemade jam were SO good!! I loved everything in the class, especially the goat cheese stuffed peppers. The carrot salad was so tasty and flavourful, it’s going in the rotation at home!
That’s exactly what we LOVE to hear, Britta! Thank you! I’ll send you a little coupon for next time. Happy Summer, Monika
You should link corresponding classes directly! I want to take a pic nic class!!!
Thanks for the comment, Amber. I would, but we have 7 locations and the class is at each. So we have a locations tab at the top…click whatever location is near you (East LA!) and that will take you to their calendar & signup…
Fantastic Class! What I love the most is all the recipes are really Doable! Easy and beautiful. I can’t wait to make these recipes again at my own home and bring them to the next concert in the park I attend!
You’ll be the hit of your section, Christine! Thanks for the kind words. Monika
I”m a huge fan of pickled anything. The first time I tried the escabeche I fell in love. Everything reminds me of Summer and I want more!
