Say “I love you!” to your lil’ cutie with a bright red cherry soda. This sweet little treat is a by-product of our easy peasy Cherry Clafoutis so why deny an opportunity to share a little sweetness in life? It’s the cherry on top!
Step 1: Make a cherry simple syrup
Simple syrup is, well, simple! All you have to remember is equal parts sugar and water. They are brought to a boil to suspend the sugar in a liquid state. Here, rather than using water, let’s be adventurous Hipcooks! Instead of water, let’s make a bright red cherry syrup by using equal parts cherry juice (collected from the thawed cherries) and sugar. Regular cane sugar works best, but you can, by all means, experiment with coconut sugar, a mix of sugar and honey: whatever you like! Bring it to a boil to make a sweet, concentrated syrup. Once it has boiled, turn the heat to a simmer, and simmer for two to three minutes. Then turn off the heat and let your yummilicious syrup cool in the pan.
Step 2: Pour some water into a glass, then the syrup
This is a soda, after all, so we go for bubbles! It’s fun to pour the soda water or sparkling mineral water first, and then add cherry syrup to your liking. Check out osmosis at work! Observe how the more viscous, dense liquid will sink and “mushroom” out. Cool!
Step 2: Stir your Cherry Soda, and sip. Ahhhh!
Isn’t making your own Cherry Soda much more fun? What a treat!
