Calling all Kiddos for Kid’s Club: Farfalle and Pesto — this one’s for YOU! It’s a veritable Green Machine that is so delicious, you’ll want to run outside and turn some cartwheels! Pasta with your very own homemade Pesto Sauce means that you can make it goldilocks-style: just right for you! Keep this recipe in your back pocket so that you can make it as an afterschool snack, or surprise your whole family and make it for them as dinner. They’ll turn cartwheels with you!
Parents, your child will need to operate a blender and will need to be at the stove for part of this class. Please make sure your child knows how to operate both. Alternatively, if you are not comfortable with your child using that equipment, make sure you’re around to lend a helping hand.
Kid’s Club: Farfalle and Pesto. Just a few ingredients make the magic!
farfalle/bow ties – half a box, 2 cup farfalle: 175 gram or 6 ounces
1 clove garlic
1 cup (loose packed) basil
½ a lemon
½ cup cream
¼ cup pine nuts
½ cup parmesan (we hope to freshly grate the cheese in class with the kiddos, so please have a small block of parmesan, asiago or pecorino cheese)
½ cup frozen peas, or frozen edamame, fava beans or lima beans
salt and pepper
Blender (give your child a little lesson beforehand if necessary, or be around to help)
medium-sized pot with handles (or sturdy handle) and lid
a small skillet
a spatula and heatproof spoon, measuring cups (½ and ¼ size)
Towels and/or oven mitts
