Let’s make a Great Salad for a BBQ!
Let’s have a comprehensive Online Knife Skills Lesson, and then make a delicious dish with what we’ve chopped! I’m thinking we enjoy these wonderful activities to celebrate the day:
Sharpen your Kitchen knife with us! (We’ll teach you how if you have a homing or sharpening steel)
Let’s Knife with Gusto! (Hipcooks will take you through a Knife Skill lesson)
We’ll make a super-delicious, crowd-pleasing side dish, which goes great with whatever you throw on the Grill
Crack open a Beer (optional, after the knifing)
Here’s what to have on hand for the Class:
For the Salad:
- approximately 2 pounds of tri-colored potatoes (Tjs carries these in 1.75-pound bags, Costco carries them as well), or 2 pounds (ish) red bliss or fingerling potatoes
- a pound of fresh green beans, or a bag of frozen haricots verts
- ½ cup of pine nuts
- about a cup’s worth of basil, or at least 6 or so basil sprigs
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled
- staples: olive oil, salt and pepper
- a beer to cheers with, optional
Equipment Check-List for the Knife Skills Lesson:
- for the Online Knife Skills Lesson portion: a kitchen knife (ideally an 8-inch French chef knife or Santoku), but let’s work with what you’ve got!
- a honing or sharpening steel, if you have one
- a wooden cutting board on a stable surface
- and, also: a large pot of salted water, set to a boil, and a colander in the sink
