Have any of you out there decided to self-publish a book? We did — shocker, I know — since Lissa and I are so “exacting” (a nice way of saying controlling) for how we like things. We had many a late, long evening (while our babes were sweetly snoozing) deciding on the layout of the book, choosing fonts, finding the right weight paper, selecting the colors for each chapter and the palate for the book, and deciding how each and every recipe would be presented.
One of the final steps was to find a printer in the USA (and better yet, local). We loved working with the awesome folks at RR Donnelly!
The last (and one of the most exciting) steps in the process was going for the press-check. Seeing the book for “real” was a thrill, and the printing plates hugely surpassed the test color-prints we had done at Kikos (of course!) After a few final tweaks to the colors, we signed off. A big, day and super exciting!
