“Cold-buster” green smoothie

We call this smoothie “The Cold-Buster.” If you’re feeling like you need a pick-me-up, here it is in a glass!

Our green-machine features celery: it’s high in enzymes, antioxidants, folate, potassium, Vitamin B6, C, & K.) You want all those things. Parsely improves your immune system and digestion.

Remember when your mamma gave you ginger ale when you were a sick little kiddo? Ginger reduces nausea, and pain, and inflammation. How about we omit the sugar now that we’re all grown up, and pack fresh ginger into our smoothie?

The sweetness in this smoothie comes from green apple (it also increases metabolism, and gives us more Vitamin A & C) and the zing from lemon (more Vitamin C always welcome).

Because we love to garnish a smoothie, we add hemp seeds to the top. They lend a nice, healthy fat and a touch of protein. Also, it is satisfying to “chew” on a sip…it makes us feel like we’re having a meal. If you like a “smooth smoothie,” then leave them out.

Ingredients in a Cold Buster Smoothie

Ingredients

4-6 stalks celery
a small handful of parsley leaves
1 green apple, for sweetness
1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, peeled
juice of 1 lemon
sprinkle of hemp seeds, optional

Instructions

Pop all your ingredients in your Vitamix, and add about 1 cup of water to start.
Blend, using the tamper, to a nice consistency (add more water if you need to.)
Taste, and adjust the sweetness (apple), spiciness (ginger) and sour (lemon) to taste. Although celery is known to have sodium, it is also super-nice to add a sprinkle of sea salt and replenish those electrolytes if you're feeling down.
Because we love to garnish the smoothie, we add hemp to the top. Go for it!
