What ‘s the best Guacamole? The one you make, of course! Just the way you like it. Let Hipcooks be the guide and make some suggestions while you get mashing. Soon you’ll agree — Guacamole, your way or the highway!
In addition to the obvious (ripe avocado), we’ve got the fixin’s, including:
lime (or lemon)
salt and pepper
finely chopped shallots, red onion, onion, scallions, or chive
jalapeno or serrano chile peppers, or spices like cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes. (Don’t like heat? Try a little cumin.)
sour cream, creme fraiche or yogurt
Hipcooks Style Guacamole
Our style guac, like yours, varies: it depends on what ingredients we have handy, and our mood. But here’s a basic guac that I love anytime.
Mash the avocado with a fork so that it is a bit chunky. Garlic is best the finer it is, so I grate mine in with a Microplane. Get yours here!
Next, add finely chopped shallot, lime juice, and salt and pepper.
Stir in a bit of yogurt to stretch it, and to give a creamy tang.
Finally, garnish with chopped chives. Serve with toast, pita chips, veggies…whatever! Enjoy alongside a delicious Margarita.
2 ripe avocados
juice of 1 juicy lime
1 garlic clove, grated with a Microplane
a dash of salt and pepper
1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot
2 tablespoons yogurt
garnish: chopped chive
Slice the avocados in half, remove the pit, and spoon the flesh into a mixing bowl. Mash with a fork. Stir in the other ingredients to taste, and serve.
