Hipcooks Caprese Salad

by Monika August 7, 2020

The Hipcooks Caprese salad makes a few tweaks. Go ahead, fall in love with the caprese salad all over again.Tomatoes and Mozzarella Recipe

You know this salad (of course you do!) The good ol’ Caprese Salad has been done a hundred different times, a hundred different ways. But it can be awesome every time! The Hipcooks Caprese salad makes a few tweaks and upgrades to the classic version because it’s summer and it’s fun to knock it outta the park!

Since this salad is so simple, you’ve got to make sure the ingredients are of optimal quality. For the Hipcooks Caprese salad, you need summer vine-ripened tomatoes — heirloom tomatoes in a variety of colors. The best olive oil. The flakiest of salt. And our trick — creamy, outlandish burrata (instead of mozzarella.) We always have basil (growing like weeds!) in the Hipcooks Studio gardens. Therefore, we can pick the choicest leaves for this salad: small to medium-sized, both green and purple varieties.

Are you lovin’ our Summer Salad posts? Check our salads galore and learn amazing knife skills in our Endless Salads class at Hipcooks. It’s offered only the summer, so get it while it’s hot!

Ingredients

2 pounds of the very best multicolored heirloom tomatoes
½ pound burrata
the smallest leaves from a bunch of purple and a bunch of green basil (you'll find many uses for the larger leaves)
your best olive oil
Maldon salt

Instructions

Cut the tomatoes crosswise, and arrange beautifully on a plate. Top with lovely plops of burrata (clean hands make the best work of this.) and then the basil leaves. Add a swirl of olive oil and a spinkling of black pepper and Maldon salt.
