It’s time to kick these cocktail sessions up a notch: let’s break out the rum! Queue up the Cuban salsa and shake up a cocktail that will get you dancing. Feel free to bust a huge smile — with the Hipcooks Mojito, no mint gets stuck in your teeth!
Ingredients for this week’s Saturday Shakedown
rum: dark or light, spiced or normal: it all works
1 juicy lime
a few mint sprigs (if possible)
mint simple syrup (recipe below)
cocktail shaker with muddler and strainer
ice, ice baby! (consider mint ice cubes, as pictured above)
Mint simple syrup
The Hipcooks Mojito requires a really strong mint simple syrup. Use dark or brown sugar for a rich simple syrup, and add plenty of mint leaves. Since I have tons of mint growing feral in my garden, this is easy. For those without easy access to fresh mint, use mint tea bags! For 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup water, really pack in the mint leaves. Alternatively, use at least 4 mint tea bags to steep that minty flavor. Let the simple syrup cool, and you’re ready to rhumba!
I also like to make mint ice cubes, if I have the forethought. They’re festive and green, and no mint gets stuck in your teeth!
