Mint Simple Syrup
2 cups Sugar
2 cups Water
3 sprigs of fresh Mint
crushed Ice
6 tablespoons Mint simple syrup
12 ounces Whiskey
fresh Mint sprigs, for garnish


Make a mint simple syrup by boiling sugar, water and mint together for five minutes. Strain, cool and place in a covered container with some additional sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight.

Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of whiskey. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.  How about a variation using fresh basil, or lemon verbena?

Perfect served with crawfish.
